Welcome!

The Inland Empire Cooperative Weed Management Area (IECWMA) was started in 2002 out of the need to meet the publics and weed management agency's requests for combined efforts toward noxious weed control.  We are a group made up of three counties (Benewah, Kootenai and Shoshone) in what is known as the Panhandle of Idaho.  Any group or agency with noxious weed control objectives within these counties can partner with the IECWMA and develop common weed management objectives, set objective priorities and participate in weed management activities.  Partners in the IECWMA include Federal, State, County, city and local governments or agencies, plus private individuals and conservation organizations, all working toward noxious weed management goals.

The IECWMA has the ability to request grant funds from the Idaho State Department of Agriculture/Noxious Weed Program to develop and implement these noxious weed objectives.  For now our objective priorities are:

1.      1.  Mapping, inventory and treatment of noxious weeds.

2.      2.  Education, biological controls and neighborhood cooperatives.

3.      3.  Eurasian watermilfoil control and containment.

The major weeds of importance within the IECWMA area are tansy ragwort, Dalmatian and yellow toadflax, blueweed, Eurasian watermilfoil and leafy spurge.  New weed invaders of interest are yellow starthistle, hoary cress (white top) and rush skeletonweed.  Each year, major efforts are being undertaken to control these and other weeds.
